Amuse Your Bouche Reader Survey 2014: The Results!
Thanks so much to everyone who filled in my reader survey the other week! I’ve finally got around to collating the results, and I thought I’d share them with you, since if you’re a total statistics nerd like me, you might be curious (if not, move along!).
After a week or two the responses stopped coming in, so I disabled the form at 319 responses. Thank you, 319 lovely people! You’re all welcome over for dinner (though probably not all at the same time).
So, let’s get stuck right in.
Question 1: Do you follow any of these special diets?
The results of this question didn’t surprise me much – I knew I had lots of readers who eat meat, as well as plenty of veggies. It’s nice to know that a wide range of people are reading! Hello all!
Question 2: Do you prefer healthy recipes, or something a bit more indulgent?
Super indulgent treats tend to do really well on Pinterest, which is why I asked this question – but it turns out that an awful lot of you (understandably!) prefer things to be on the healthier side. Most people liked a mixture of the two, so I figure I’ll keep doing things as I do now – I try to make most recipes relatively healthy, with the occasional super cheesy or chocolatey treat thrown in for good measure. Obviously everyone has their own definition of ‘healthy’, so I’ll continue to try to share recipes of all kinds – vegan, gluten free, low carb, etc.
Question 3: Would you like to see nutritional information on recipes?
Around a third of you said that yes, you’d like to see nutritional information – the rest either didn’t want to see the information, or didn’t really care. A third is still a pretty big chunk though, so this is definitely something I’ll consider adding in the future! I’ve actually been looking out for a calculator that I’m happy with, but since brands and products vary so much from country to country, and the nutritional information differs so much depending on whether you’re having a big portion as a main course or a small portion as a side dish, I’ve not found a good way to do it yet. But I’ll have another think!
Question 4: What recipe format do you prefer to use?
This one really surprised me! I thought more people would prefer the American recipe format than the British one, but the Brits came out on top! Obviously a load of you still like American measurements though, and I’ve been looking for a good way to display both formats for a while now. Again, I can’t find anything I like! (apparently I’m very picky about my recipes) I’ll definitely keep searching though.
Question 5: Would you like to see step-by-step photos on Amuse Your Bouche, or are you happy with mostly just photos of the finished dish?
Thank you for this one! I’d hate to have to take step-by-step photos of every recipe (it’s hard enough to remember to write the recipe down while I’m cooking, let alone stopping every 30 seconds to take photos!), and luckily only 6% of you wanted this, so it won’t be happening. Most of my recipes are super simple anyway, but if I ever do anything particularly tricky I’ll make sure I take an explanatory picture.
Question 6: Which of these are your favourite types of recipes?
This one surprised me! I’m really pleased that main meals came out on top, because those are my favourite recipes to make, but I’m surprised that soup and side dishes came second and third! I always think of both those categories as a bit boring, but I guess I’m wrong! I’ll try to remember to post more soup recipes!
Question 7: How often would you like to see round-up posts on Amuse Your Bouche (e.g. 60 vegetarian black bean recipes, 40 healthier vegetarian comfort food recipes)?
I’m happy with the result of this one – I tend to post a round-up post about every 4-6 weeks, which seems to be in keeping with what you guys like. I actually aim for about one a month, but I’m so disorganised that it usually takes me longer to get around to writing them! I’ll try to have another one for you before Christmas.
Question 8: Would you like to see product reviews on Amuse Your Bouche?
Only 16% of you said you really wanted to see product reviews, so they probably won’t be appearing here (sorry to the 16% of you who wanted them!).
Question 9: How often would you like to see blogging tips on Amuse Your Bouche?
Remember when I used to post blogging tips once a week? Til I got lazy and stopped writing them? Yeah, I didn’t love writing them too much, so that kind of fizzled out. I still get lots of comments on those posts though, even now, so I wasn’t sure whether you’d like me to start them back up again. Most of you said no though, which suits me fine! I might post the occasional blogging tip if the mood strikes me, but chances are I’ll stick to recipes for now.
Question 10: Would you like to see cooking tips / tricks on Amuse Your Bouche?
I guess that’s a yes then! I’ll have to get my thinking hat on to come up with some great tricks for you.
Question 11: How do you feel about sponsored posts?
I’m really glad that most of you were totally okay with sponsored posts, as long as they come with a recipe. I always make sure I include a recipe in all sponsored posts because, let’s face it, that’s what you come here for! Sponsored posts are the sole reason that I can continue to blog here day after day, and I really appreciate you guys continuing to support me and the brands that sponsor me!
Question 12: Would you like to see recipes using ‘fake meat’ (e.g. Quorn), or do you prefer other forms of vegetarian protein?
I don’t often use ‘fake meat’ in my blog recipes because I assumed you guys would prefer to see something a bit more creative – but actually, a lot of you seem to like the stuff! I do use fake meat fairly often at home, so I might post the occasional recipe using it, but I’ll continue to use other forms of protein in most of my recipes.
Question 13: Would you prefer Amuse Your Bouche recipes to be posted on the same days each week, or are you happy with them randomly appearing every 2-3 days?
THANK YOU for this one! Much as I’ve tried to get organised and stick to a schedule, that’s just not the way my mind works – sometimes I can write a few posts in one day, other times I go three days without any inspiration at all. I make sure I spread everything out so you get a recipe every 2-3 days, but a set schedule just isn’t for me – and the vast (vast!) majority of you don’t mind. Woop!
Question 14: How do you feel about recipe videos?
Nearly half of you don’t like recipe videos! And only 6% of you really like them. I’m ridiculously relieved about this because I hate being on camera, and I don’t personally enjoy recipe videos myself (you can’t skim-read a video!). I was considering experimenting with videos, but I’m very happy that you’ve let me off the hook. Ta!
Question 15: Would you be interested in purchasing an Amuse Your Bouche e-cookbook at some point in the future?
Totally fair enough! I’d want to know the price and topic of a book first too. It’s nice to know you’re open to the idea at least! To those of you who said you’d love to buy one regardless of price or topic: I love you. Seriously, come round for tea.
(a few of you also said you’d prefer a physical book to an ebook – and I totally agree! I much prefer physical books. Unfortunately, there are no publishers banging my door down, desperate to publish a book for me… so maybe we’ll have to wait a few more years for that)
Question 16: Any other comments / likes / dislikes / recipe requests that you’d like to tell me about?
Thank you to everyone who left me a comment in this box! You guys are seriously too nice, you actually brought me to tears with your lovely comments. Literally, sitting in my living room in the dark crying quietly to myself (though I swear it was less pathetic than it sounds… maybe).
A few random things that people asked about / commented on:
– somebody said they wanted a picture to appear next to the recipe when it’s printed – no problemo! I’ve turned that feature on. If everyone hates it I can turn it off again, just let me know!
– to anyone else who had a comment or suggestion: I read them all, and they will all definitely be kept in mind! Thank you!
