Slow cooker caramelised onions

Sweet, melt-in-your-mouth slow cooker caramelised onions that cook low and slow until perfectly caramelised, with no effort from you!

  • 4 large onions
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage, oregano or thyme


  • Halve the onions, remove the skins, then slice them thinly.
  • Place in the slow cooker with all the other ingredients, and mix to combine.
  • Cook on high until cooked to your liking, stirring every hour or two to help them cook evenly. Mine took about 4.5 hours, but even just 2-3 hours will give a tasty result.
