3 Ingredient Hummus Scones
As you may know, I consider myself more of a cook than a baker – so if I’m sharing a recipe that even slightly resembles baking, you know it’s going to be seriously easy. Even if you’ve never baked homemade scones before in your life, these 3 ingredient hummus scones are absolutely foolproof! Somehow, shop-bought hummus and flour (and baking powder, if you want to be picky) combine to make the most incredible homemade scones – the recipe is utter magic.
These easy scones end up wonderfully crispy on the edges, moist and soft in the middles, and just perfect served warm from the oven, spread with some melty butter.

Unfortunately, I can’t take the credit for the absolute genius of these hummus scones. I truly wish I had come up with this idea myself, because it’s incredible, but the credit actually goes to a wonderful lady named Tat Effby, who goes by The Caketoonist on Instagram. She posted these hummus scones on Instagram a few months back, and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made them now. Go and watch her video – she’s hilarious, and the scones are a stroke of pure genius. I just had to share them with you all.
I doubled the recipe and made the scones a little larger than Tat did, but otherwise I stayed true to the originals.

🍞 Why I Love these Scones
These savoury scones have some great selling points:
- You can use different flavours of hummus, and different additional mix-ins, to give these scones a different vibe every time you make them. This time I used jalapeño flavoured hummus and some chopped chives – so tasty.
- They’re super easy to make, but still give the satisfaction of a homemade snack – my kids love having these after school.
- They are tasty even when simply served with lashings of butter (especially if they’re still warm from the oven, so it goes all melty), but they also work well with any kinds of fillings you like – treat them just like a sandwich.

- hummus – I’ve tested this recipe using a standard supermarket brand of hummus, and a slightly posher, more expensive brand, and it all works the same. Choose your favourite flavour of hummus – this time I used jalapeño hummus, which was really tasty, but I usually use plain hummus if I’m making them for my kids.
- plain (all-purpose) flour
- baking powder
- optional extras – I used some chopped chives, but you could also your favourite dried herbs, smoked paprika, curry powder, garlic powder, or whatever else you like the sound of.

🧄 Flavour Variations
I love the fact that you could make these hummus scones taste different every time. Here are a few ideas (I haven’t tested all of these combinations yet, but I’ll work my way through them slowly!):
- plain hummus scones with garlic granules and chopped herbs
- red pepper hummus scones with finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes
- caramelised onion hummus scones with a little grated cheese melted on top
- Moroccan hummus scones with raisins

💭 Recipe FAQs
The scones are best eaten straight away, when they’re crispy and warm. However, they do also taste great a day or two later – they’re just a bit less crispy. Store them in an air-tight container.
My favourite way to eat these scones is warm with plenty of butter. They’re also great used for sandwiches.
